Printing stock photography

Tired of those smiling faces in front of stark white backgrounds? The design for your business printing should represent your company character and branding, but hiring a professional photographer is not on the to-do list for the average SME.

It can be tempting to pick up your smartphone, but you’re unlikely to get the hi-res print quality you need for your leaflet printing and flyers. Fear not, there are now some amazing sources of free stock photography (or Creative Commons Zero licensed) images that you can plaster all over your branded touch-points from printed media, websites and blogs, just so you can wow your customers.

Here are three fantastic websites were you can search stock photography by keyword or browse the categories for inspiration. The images are hi-res and suitable for a variety of uses, perfect for adding interest to your brochures or a direct mail campaign. You can find people at work on their computers, someone reading in a coffee shop or beautiful mountains; there is something for everyone.
A simple search bar at the head of the page with some suggestions for popular searches, Pexels has an easy to use gallery layout to help you find what you’re looking for. Download the images in a variety of sizes and resolutions + They also have a bi-monthly newsletter so you can receive 40+ new stock photos to keep your print designs fresh and creative.
With a search box top right and browse design categories at the bottom, Picjumbo offers a starting point if you are not sure what to look for. They also offer a premium subscription (just $7.50- less than £5), giving you access to additional images in new collections and a complete history of their back catalogue. This is great if you’re rebranding or refreshing your marketing material or print media.
Stocksnap have a simple search bar at the top of the page and a one-click download once you spot the image you like. You can subscribe to get the newest images sent direct to your inbox each week, a welcome distraction from doing the accounts!
